Although the Matterhorn has been closed to climbers since July 2015, its history is rich and dates back centuries. The Matterhorn is a peak in the Alps that straddles the border between Switzerland and Italy. It is one of the most recognizable mountains in the world and has been a popular destination for climbers since the 1860s. In 1865, four men became the first to summit the Matterhorn, and it has been climbed by thousands of people since then. However, the Matterhorn has also been the site of many accidents and fatalities, which led to its closure in 2015.

The Matterhorn was closed in 2008 due to a large avalanche.

The Fantasyland attraction in Disneyland is set to undergo a closure for refurbishment, with no end date currently listed. The attraction, which opened in 1959, is the first roller coaster-style attraction in Disneyland and is in need of regular maintenance.

The Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction at Disneyland was updated in 1978, at which time the experience of riding the attraction changed substantially. The inside was changed from a large, open space into a network of “ice caves,” and several scenes of the Abominable Snowman were added.
