Mount Everest is the world’s highest mountain. It is also one of the most dangerous. Every year, hundreds of people attempt to climb Everest. Many of them do not make it back alive.
Since the first recorded ascent of Everest in 1953, there have been more than 4,000 deaths on the mountain. The vast majority of these deaths have occurred since the late 1980s, when commercial expeditions began offering guided climbs to the summit.
The death toll on Everest is higher than on any other mountain in the world. But it is also important to keep perspective. While Everest is dangerous, it is still climbed by hundreds of people every year. And the vast majority of them do make it back alive.
There is no definitive answer to this question as the number of mountaineers who have died on Everest is not known with certainty. However, it is estimated that the death toll on Everest is between 200 and 300.
Which mountain has claimed the most lives?

How many lives were claimed in the worst disaster in Everest history
The 1996 Mount Everest disaster occurred on 10–11 May 1996, when eight climbers caught in a blizzard died on Mount Everest, during the descent from the summit. The event was later dubbed the “Mount Everest disaster”. Five of the climbers were part of a commercial expedition guided by New Zealander Rob Hall. The summit was reached on 10 May, but soon afterwards, the climbers were caught in a blizzard and unable to descend. Hall, who had radioed for help, died with his client Doug Hansen. Another climber, Yasuko Namba, also died while descending. The three other members of Hall’s expedition, including client Beck Weathers, who had been left for dead, were rescued by a search and rescue team led by Anatoli Boukreev.
The disaster was widely reported and led to changes in the way commercial expeditions were run on Mount Everest.
Tsewang Paljor and an Indian climber who perished at Mount Everest became known as Green Boots, perhaps the most famous of all the deaths that occurred at Everest. Named after his neon-colored boots, which he wore when he died, Paljor has been frozen stiff on the mountain’s Northeast Ridge since 1996.
A young, inexperienced climber, Paljor died of exposure after being caught in a blizzard. His body has since been used as a marker by other climbers, helping them to gauge their progress up the mountain.
While some have criticized the use of Paljor’s body as a marker, others believe that it serves as a sober reminder of the dangers of Everest. Either way, Green Boots continues to be one of the most iconic figures on the world’s tallest mountain.
How much do Sherpas get paid?
Sherpa is a company that provides a variety of services, including transportation and logistics, to its clients. The company pays its employees an average of $77,410 a year, or $3722 an hour. The lowest earners at Sherpa earn $42,000 a year, while the top 10 percent of earners are paid over $139,000. Salaries vary by department, with transportation and logistics employees typically earning more than those in other departments.
K2, the second-highest peak in the world, is almost as dangerous as Mount Everest, with a fatality rate of 29%. Everest, by contrast, has a 4% fatality rate.

Of those 312 fatalities, 99 were Sherpas – meaning that one third of all deaths on Everest were of Sherpas.
