The Matterhorn, apyramidal peak in the Pennine Alps, is one of the highest and most famous mountains in the Alps. It is located on the border between Switzerland and Italy. The peak was first climbed in 1865 and has since become one of the most popular mountains to climb in the world. The Matterhorn has been closed to climbers since July of 2015 due to a large rock slide. The Swiss and Italian governments are currently working on a plan to reopen the mountain, but it is unknown when that will happen.
